Bruntsfield is a largely residential area to the south of the city centre. It was built for the emerging middle-classes in the late 19th century and most of the housing is in tenement flats. It includes a large recreation space (Bruntsfield Links) where golf has been played since the early 18th century and a thriving high street with individual shops and restaurants.
