This site has many great photography articles, and this link gives a very good explanation of why it is better to use crop-format lenses on crop-format bodies, rather than full frame lenses.

I think the summary, "Cropped sensor digital SLRs can use full frame lenses, but cropped lenses are normally a more practical choice.", is probably most useful bit. I'm not convinced about the rest of the article and the "technical" justification.

The point that lenses are simplest at a focal length close to the diagonal of the sensor is not one I've heard of before, but I'm no optics expert. I was surprised that he did not mention the advantage of full frame lenses on crop sensors that the centre of the lens is used and this is sharper than the edges, or did I miss it?

No, I didn't see that option as part of his argument/opinion.

I dont understand how he thinks there is less zoom range. The zoom range should be exactly the same, just from different focal lengths. Also he manages to point out that the EF-S lens is the ideal lens for cropped sensor Canon camera. What a genius! I myself preferred full frame lenses when shooting with a cropped body as they gave a much finer image quality. Which he doesn't manage to point out. And, as was already pointed out he is missing out the fact that you are only using the sharpest part of a full frame lens, the centre.

Its more an argument for cropped lenses rather than a discursive report
