Hi,

Can anyone recommend a book for getting started with Photoshop Elements that would complement the beginners tutorials running over the coming year with the group and quickly get me making the most of the software?

I'd like to be able to learn the useful commonly used functions as quickly as possible rather than getting something that goes too far in to advanced techniques that I may not touch in the first year or two of use. Things like irregular cropping and pasting a section of one image's content in to another, applying filters and applying changes to contrast etc.

I have Photoshop Elements 6 on the Mac and it would be great if it was something that is specific to this and to Bridge 3 too if that is possible.

Thanks in advance,
Graeme Seggie.

Graeme,
I have found 'Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac - the missing manual' by Barbara Brundage, published by Pogue Press /O'Reilly useful. It is a large book but the content is broken down into small sections, listed under each chapter heading. This means you can look for any particular item you want to find. It is comprehensive, easy to read and will support from beginner to advanced.£21.99
The Photoshop Elements 6 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, published by Peachpit Press. Amazon price £14.99 Scott kelby is an Elements expert, his writing is easy to read and follow, with lots of illustrations of what you should see on the screen.
'Learn Elements Now' is an online book which can be downloaded for a small fee. It contains a pdf file to print out + a series of 'how to...' video tutorials. Go to http://learnelementsnow.com/ for more info and the price.

I hope this is helpful. If you would like to see the 'Missing Manual' email me and I'll bring it to Monday's Digital group meeting.

Fantastic, that sounds exactly like what I am after. I'm actually off to Spain next week so no need to bring along the book on Monday but I'll have a look online and in Waterstones for it / them.

Regards,
Graeme.
